CHAPEL - MAX TANENBAUM ROOF GARDEN

Client
Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, Toronto, Ontario.
A gift by the Tauba and Solomon Spiro Family Foundation
Garden Design by Neil Turnbull Ltd., Landscape Architect.
Sculptural Structures and lighting by R & L Baird.

Materials
Stainless Steel, Stainless Steel Chain-mail and galvanized steel.
Each chapel segment is 6 m in diameter joined at the roof edge, and 12 m high to kinetic elements.
The Chapel was inspired by the ‘Datura’ flower, a symbol of human fertility. The merging of the three roofs provides a serene space for contemplation under the gently shifting and rustling stainless steel chain-mail canopy. The kinetic wands on the roof pinnacles respond to the elements, dancing and spinning with the whims of the wind.
